    Hey Guys.

Well i want to enter the burnout comp at rev heads to rip a massive skid. I want to get another diff with 4+ ratio gears and a mini or full spool. I don't want to use the stock diff as it is in good condition. I would like to know where i can source one.

I would also like to know what checks i should do to the car to make sure i don't ruin it. I don't think i will be doing a skid to tyre destruction but i don't want any mechanical faults. I don't think i will be pushing it overheating either.

1 last thing. Sponsors. If you or anyone you know works/owns a car business and thinks they could help me out, let me know. I would be more than happy to put stickers on the car for the weekend.

    Current Pre Check List:
    Small tyres, Maybe 205 - 215's. 15's or 16's.
    Full Service.
New Diff with higher ratio gears
    Minispool.

Depending on how long/hard you plan to go for, you want GOOD cooling. It doesn't take long in the top end for a 304 to start running hot. To give you an idea, when I take my VQ for a hill climb which lasts about 3-4min, it's peaking around 115 degrees by the time I reach the top. And I'm running a 14" puller and 12" pusher fan on the whole way up there, working between 3-4800rpm the whole way up. And that's with the car moving at 100kph+ for a lot of the time, not sitting still doing a static :)

If you can find a set of 175s on 14" rims around the wreckers, you may even want to use them :) The less effort you need to spin the tyres, the higher the gear you can do a burnout in. If you can do a 3rd gear burnout on 175s and keep her around 3500rpm, then why not :D I used to run 175s on the back of my V6 VP and that had no issues keeping an easy 2nd gear twinnie going in circles. A V8 should be even easier ^_^

Because at the end of the day, it's pretty much all about heat. Apart from redline-bashing, the only real damage you're going to do is through overheating, so as long as you have a good temp gauge set up, and some thorough cooling, you should be sweet :)

Other than that, just be prepared to buy some new rear pads after the event if you don't have a line locker ^_^

Oh, and if you want to get keen, jump under the car and make sure there's no wires or hoses near your extractors at the collection points where it really heats up. I've seen three cars catch fire during burnouts up in Brissy because something was sitting too close to the extractors, and the red-hot pipes set them on fire.

Yeah, 304 has the clutch fan. However, it should have an a/c pusher fan on the front of the condensor. Good idea to splice the power into ign for the day, so it's always-on while you're burning out ^_^

Also, if you have subs in the boot, or spare tyres etc, take them all out. The lighter the rear-end, the better :)

another good cooling solution is a engine oil cooler. although not simple to fit is a great way to help keep things cool. also fit the biggest trans cooler you can find

when you finish your burnout don't just drive it off the pad and shut it down. keep her running and let it cool down properly. misting some water over the radiator will help here but don't hit it wiht huge amounts of cold water on a hot radiator because you will flash cool it in small areas and could possibly crack from sudden temperature fluctuations.

oh yeah, fit a cooler thermostat so it starts circulating through the radiator earlier but don't run without one

Going to narrogin hey? To answer your question I dont think colder induction air will do anything to the overall engine temp, I would not bother, though if you meant power gain for a bit more smoke, why not.

Do NOT replace the CAI with a pod filter. The last thing you need is to be soaking up hot air and risking predetonation :p

Is there anyway of getting the car to hold 1st gear without a shift kit?

As Morton said its better if you can keep the skid going while the trans shifts up to 2nd or 3rd, that will keep the revs down. have you been doin any practise ? if tere is anywhere you can practise.

Yeah, I wouldn't be holding her in 1st if possible. To make decent smoke in 1st, you're going to be redlining. That's not good :) If you can keep her pumping in 2nd gear, that would be preferable.

Yeah but im worried about powerdropping in 2nd then going back to 1st, and then back to 2nd, and then back to 1st. Thats just annoying.

All statesmans come with lsd's. Anyone know anywhere in WA where i can get it really tight for burnouts.

I was thinking of getting spool. but its pretty expensive for 1 day of use.

Yeah the constant 1st to 2nd,1st to 2nd etc...is what wrecks the tranny! Maybe yeah, a memcal tune will help.
