    Hey all,

the sv6 has still got the tapping heat shields issue (when cold for abbout 2 min) that was bought up a long time ago, ive neglected to do anything about mine. Was just wondering for anyone who did the job themselves, was it the heatsheilds on the manifolds or was it the next ones down on the actual exhaust? Also Drivers or passengers side? Sounds like drivers side on mine. Its a bit of a pain in the ass to get a look and have a feel around because the exhausts get so hot so quickly after startup.

    thanks in advance!

the only way is to get under it & see where its hitting & reposition them to avoid contact.

    Hi guys,

I've also got a tapping noise that lasts about 2-3 mins on cold start up.(VZ one tonner 175 alloytec) I've just got it back from a Holden dealership where it sat overnight so they could do a cold start up and surprise surprise they can't hear any noise!! I'm not done with them yet but I want to arm myself with a bit of information. I read a post here a few months ago which I now can't find even with the search function that said something about the problem being due to the oil draining away from the top end too quickly? and that the fix envolved removing the heads and replacing the bleed valves??? I'm really hoping someone can point me to that post.

I know it's off topic but I work with a guy who took a redundancy from a company that supply or supplied diffs to Holden (and Ford) and he told me of the poor quality manufacturing that led to hundreds of diffs being returned to them by Holden and Ford and yet Holden tell me that the cluncky diff in my one tonner is within holden specification!!! ......I love Holdens, the first car I drove was my dads 68 HK monaro, It's been Holdens for me ever since but these tight a$$ holden dealerships are ruining it for me :ranting:

Pretty soon we'll all be driving fully imported cars!

I'm glad I got that off my chest, I feel much better now:)

Yeah mate the tapping noise for 2-3 mins is the heatsheilds. But the other problem with the bleed valves you are talking about last only about 3 seconds and makes a much louder and rattling noise. Try a different dealer or maybe you will have to leave it over night again and stand there and point out the noise to them in the morning when they start it.

Thanks QuIcKsV6, Hope your right, I've already got another appointment with them so I can be there when they start it up. It's just frustrating, surely they know what the problem is, is it really worth pi$$ing a customer off to save a few bucks?

I've got heat shield rattle in my VY as well. It is intermittent and doesn't really bother me that much. Although it was annoying the hell out of me today. But it has done it from the day I bought it. A non issue for me really. If it gets any worse I might do something about it.
