    Listen to Eminem much?

I know this is off topic but my Brother who is damn good with computers said he is SERIOUSLY impressed with Windows 7. A lot of experts are saying that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

When i renewed my contract and got a new phone from Telstra they sent me a bill for $250 for cancelling my contract .After a few calls they assured me it was fixed but the same thing happened for the next three months.

Anyone who's spent a bit of time using a *nix based system (Linux/Mac OS X/most servers) knows you there are hardly ANY programs that require a reboot to install. It's due to the crappy and poorly thought out system architecture of Windows that gives it this trait, along with many of its vulnerabilities. Some of this stuff has been fixed, much of it still exists.

Windows is more heavily targeted by virus writers, which is part of the reason why there are so many of them, but again it's architecture is what really makes it such an easy target. For many years it was almost as if Microsoft left doors wide open on purpose - ActiveX is a great example.

You can say there are valid excuses for all the crappy aspects of Windows, but they are only half-excuses. Most of the time it's just poor design.

The best part for me is when people talk about how their computer feels like it's slowing down (as Windows systems invariably do as they get loaded up with background processes and other bits of crap that secretly accumulate if you don't keep a very close eye on them), and the most common solution is to format the computer and start again! It's said as if it's just a business-as-usual thing to do, but any non-Windows user would laugh in your face if you suggested something as retarded as that.

Telstra are hopeless, My connection was put on a week after the due date because my new number was entered in to their system twice. I rang before I moved to make sure the phone and net was on when I got to the new house.

Now I have net and phone, only the 2 run on different lines, to fix it I have to call them and ask to change it, another 4 days while they change it.....Hopeless... Should have stayed with Internode.

actually yes i have, i do have a Linux box that i use

There are definitely better operating systems, but i still think windows is a good operating system, you are right though danja it is poorly designed.

when you think about it, it does everything it's supposed to do. How often do people have problems anyway, I've had a few problems this year, all hardware related because of a dodgy power point (was expensive to find that out, the UPS is keeping it all alive now lol) but apart from that, nothing, and nothing software related at all.

If people are getting software problems, it usually comes down to PICNIC, :) I'm sure you guys know what that means, and i bet 99% of the time people have software problems, it will come down to PICNIC.

but anyways, we are getting off topic, more on telstras crappy service lol

The only difference with Microsoft is, you can either get your balls ripped off by them, or deal with Apple. Microsoft, the lesser of two evils :p

The best thing about Apple are their shares.. From US$90 a share to over 180... always knew it was going past 150... just not that high haha.

I don't think there is a communications company out there that someone hasn't had problems with. Just some seem to have more then others.

Im with Optus on Cable, i had heaps of problems at the start. But it was a problem with the street and its power lines or something. Was fixed and had my first month Internet free, then it happened again and they upgraded my modem and gave me another month free. Been with them for 4 or 5 years now and havent had another issue. Everytime i called Customer Service i got a person who was fluent in english.

as far as the person who posted about 6+ mths of not recieving a bill, Telstra (any telco) can bill you for a service up to 6mths in arrears. For those customers effected by Telstra 'no bill' they will receive a letter advising them of when to expect bills, then you will get all the bills within a week (usually) followed by a letter (or included with bills) telling you about how many months line rental/usage has been wavied due to the issue.

No late fees will be charged & large/long payment extensions will be granted.

that person was me, i just contacted the TIO and after speaking to them telstra.

and a lady at telstra did a background check on my account, the last thing she found that i can be charged for was a bill in October 2008, which has already been long ago paid for.

so, things are looking up for me, but the TIO were incredibly helpful (link on page 1 of this thread) so if anyone else is getting stuffed about i suggest you call them. :D
