When my radiator failed the temp needle went up to about 3/4 and an engine overheat warning chimed up on the dash. Now I've replaced the radiator and it's running ok but the needle is still stuck at 3/4. Would that mean my gauge or sensor is buggered or would it have logged an overheat code or something and need to be cleared by a scanner ?? I'm stumped on this one... :/
Quite possible you got air in the system after replacing the radiator and coolant. If not maybe your water pump is stuffed, what caused the radiator to fail?
The top hose spout broke just like the old ecotec models used to do. How would the water pump effect the temp gauge? I mean it's been sitting for 3 days since I last drive it so the engine Is cold but when I start it the gauge still reads 3/4. When I turn the key all the gauges read zero so the needle isn't stuck, but after it starts it jumps back up to 3/4.
possible sensor fault, if it is the v8, it is at the front r/h side in the head, cant miss it, about $90 from holdens, they look very gold in colour when new so I asked if it was gold plated at that price, seriously though when mine failed it was brining up a warning, contact dealer X, but mine failed to read-the opposite of yours, maybe that's why no warning as it is suppling a reading albeit wrong THE V6 Is just to the right of the oil filter housing when looking at the passenger side of the engine
