Don’t know what you Kiwis make of this

I don’t think that ScoMO was targeting NZ. Over-reaction by Jacinda, who is probably stressed out of her brain at the moment ?
The comment was generally aimed at ‘backpackers’ who are here on work visas, and as a result of having lost their jobs are flouting the self isolation, social distancing guidelines/rules by partying and having a good time. Bondi Beach, Manly and Byron Bay are good examples.
Perhaps they should have travelled on to NZ, and got a taste of your current situation.
One such British (?) backpacker has been interviewed stating that Australians are jealous of them because they are just enjoying themselves by socialising and partying. Strangely, during the last week some of these young, fit, carefree, fun loving people are now showing symptoms of the virus.
Visas are issued on the basis of the incoming tourist/worker can support themselves for 12 months from their own finances. What happens if they become a statistic and are relying on Australian funded medical treatment ?
Pacific Islanders have already been granted a 12 month extension of their visas.
I personally know a NZer and his British wife who have both been here for over 20 years, pay their taxes and have Medicare cards, but are not Australian citizens, (why, I don’t know ) and I doubt very much if they are going to be bundled on a plane by Border Force and sent 'home'.
