Had the front bar re-painted under warranty - there was a slight issue with the bar not being properly primed around the upper grille area - neither the painter nor I were happy with it, so it was buzzed back to plastic and redone properly.

I asked for it back off the gun - for obvious reasons - but full credit to the guy who painted it (dealership panel shop) - he's done an excellent job. It's actually a good opportunity to point out something that some people may have heard me rattling on about around the traps. It's no secret that the VF range is full of peel - now the new paint is not peel free, there will always be some, unless the paint has been blocked back and polished back up - but this photo illustrates pretty well just how much gloss is robbed by paint defects (peel in this instance, but holograms, swirls, etc have a similar effect)

Keep in mind, neither the bar, nor that guard has been polished by me, or anyone else, at all. The colour match is near perfect - the difference between guard and bar is purely the fact there is a lack of peel in the bar. Reflections are significantly crisper, and blind freddy could see the difference in gloss. That's not to say that the rest of the car looks dull, far from it - but it's pretty clear how much gloss is being robbed. I will refine the front bar down a bit, it's still a little fluttery, but for a job that is genuinely off the gun, I'm quite impressed with that.

To people who would not normally sand their new car (almost everyone) this would be an issue, and a costly one at that, so it would probably be better to try to match the peel on the area being repaired - and there is a heap of it to try to match, however this whole car will be wet sanded to reduce the peel, which means I just have less sanding I need to do on the front bar now. Nice.

We went with Fantale for our colour choice but at the dealership, comparing several colours we found the Perfect Blue to not have the depth of colour and shine compared to the other colours. Will a wet sand improve this?

Yes mate. perfect blue has a lot of potential but it's hugely robbed by peel. Reducing the peel will make a massive difference.

Paint colour between metal and plastic will never be a perfect match anyway. It will be close, but you can always tell the difference.

Must be about time to upgrade the exhaust hey Tinny?
