Just incase of BMW theives and jealousy :p, probably should have mentioned in the last post but nice car mate! all these bimmers on here are tempting me to get euro :)

For them to leave with the car someone would have to be dead. Not sure who.. but definitely someone!

Over the past few days I have been prepping for the manual conversion.

I pulled the drive shaft, shifter, slave cylinder and Getrag 260 out of the donor car.

The Getrag was a lil' on the "dirty" side.

So I cleaned it up.

Good to see BMW value shift speed.

Next i'll pull the pedal assembly, master cylinder, clutch, flywheel, and diff.

I have seals on order from Pelican Parts. Rear main for the engine. Input, output, and selector rod for the Getrag. Pinion, drive, as well as side seal o-rings for the diff.

The clutch is only 300kms old, so I am told.

drive lines

Wandered out into the garage earlier. Came back with some photos of what I found laying around.

The UUC short shifter and DSSR landed in the country on Friday according to tracking. I expect that next week. Seals etc have been delayed by some special order parts. Namely 82-11-1-468-722 - Pelican tell me that I have scored the last one in the US. :)

As soon as they get here installation will be happening.

UUC - The world's premier short shifter

"Hard to get.... I like that!"

This arrived today with a big thanks to Chris from understeer.com

There is no official DSSR fitment available for the E34 535i. His customer service was excellent. I provided him with stock measurements and we selected the closest fit, which is 3mm shorter than the stock selector rod. This difference will move the top of the shifter backward about 15mm. That's far less than the amount of slop in the stock shifter assembly. And in truth will help with clearance for my tablet install.

This thing comes with the highest recommendations from anyone who has touched one. Even before it goes in the car I can see why.

Quality doesn't come cheap however. All said and done it set me back AU$540 delivered.

Bits n Pieces

Bought some SMD LED T10 (W5W) globes for the parking lights as a starting point for a lighting overhaul. They feature the 5050 chip and come in at 80lm and 6500K. New stock lights are 50lm and 2700K. They look the goods:

Also test fit the short shifter assembly into the shifting arm from the donor:

Going Backwards

Purchased some P21W BA15s 68 chip SMD LEDs for my reverse lights. They throw out 340lm at 6500K as opposed to the brighter 460lm 2700K stock globes. However, having had a look at the difference, it is apparent the oxidization/ageing inherent in the incandescent technology means the brightness is pretty much the same after some use.

uc

You can see the difference in brightness and color temperature here. The old bulbs are about 12 months old.

uc

The passenger side was pretty much plug and play. However the driver's side needed some rewiring to reverse the polarity of the base contacts before the LEDs would do their thing.

I am very happy with the look of the finished product.

All good things come to those who wait....

My Pelican Parts order arrived today...

Just in time as it turned out, has set me up beautifully for the long week end. :yahoo:

Expect photos of the manual changeover shortly.

Now the wait for the suspension parts intensifies.
