Forget about "watt's" it means nothing in most cases, for e.g i spent $800 on a set of drivers in a project at home and they are only rated to 50 watts, and they will vacate the room. I'm talking mono block amp for the sub, and a 2 ch amp for the fronts. You could pick them up for about $470, if you went something like the Jaycar range - Response Precision 1000WRMS Linkable Class D Subwoofer Amplifier - Jaycar Electronics Response Precision 2 x 150WRMS Class AB Amplifier - Jaycar Electronics both very good amps for the money you won't hear many bad opinions on them Leaves you with $1030 based on $1500 budget. From there i'd probably break the budget up around- $300 for the head unit, (i'd just stick with a single din, keep it simple) $400 on the front speakers, leaves you with $300 for the sub. You'd wind up with a decent head unit, a very good sounding set of front speakers, with an amp, plus a sub and amp will the ability to connect a 2nd sub at any point.... I have no idea what the guy above you is on about.....
oh sweet, well ive just looked around on the internet for a set up here it is 6.5" splits - pioneer ts-d1720c - 260w and 2way monoblock pioneer gm-d7500m - 800w x 1 ch Subs 2X pioneer TS w309d4 - peak 1400w - rms400w - 4ohm (without boxes ) headunit JVC kw-av50 6.1" how would this set up sound ? any criticism on what tweaks ?
The worst part about all this is that you haven't listened to these components, yet by the sounds of it you'd almost go out and spend all your money on them. What part of "the speakers that sound best to you" in my first reply didn't make it across the net? Why would you want to spend $200 on front speakers instead of $400 so just you can have another crap subwoofer straight away.... If you must sacrifice some of the budget from the front speakers and buy a better sub, then do that, but you just listed a bunch of junk to be honest for the money you were talking about spending..Your budget will allow for some quality gear..
Well like i said before i am a noob! so i should ditch the Extra sub for the moment and spend the extra on the fronts... What am i looking for to know if its good ? see you said the 260w was bunch of junk so therefore i have no idea what im looking for haha. More something like this ? MTX CTC-160 6.5" 2 Way
I didn't say 260w was junk, i said forget about power and things like that. You just put up another set of speakers, have you heard them? I feel like my point is getting across. I don't mean to sound rude, but HAVE YOU HEARD THEM !?!?!? Go out and listen to some speakers, listen to them in diffrenet price ranges, $200, $300, $400 and so forth. Listen to the differences, listen to the differences also between speakers that cost the same. What sounds really good to me might not sound as good to you. Everyone has different tastes, which is why it's pointless saying yes these are good speakers now go out and buy them.....heck you might not hear the difference with a set of speakers that cost twice as much, in which case you would direct the money elsewhere in the build.... If your unsure on some popular and what are considered decent speakers that should be on your audition list, or consideration list, then that's fine i can help with that. But i can't tell you what components to buy. Only reason i linked the amps is because amplifier have the least impact on overall sound, and they are considered amongst the best value for money...
now youve got your point across haha!!! i need to go down to autobarn or somewhere tomorrow or something and have a listen!
Noooo don't go to Autobahn, i'm talking quality components here, car audio stores, not car oil, spark plugs, floor mats, oh yeah we got some speakers too.... Which state are you in, or where do you live, i'll put up some better reccomendations for some stores you go into where you'll actually have half a chance.
haha, okay not autobarn then!! I live in melbourne eastern suburbs, the only car audio shop i know is performance car audio in bayswater!
Right, so why wouldn't you go there instead? They stock Morel (great) Hertz (more on the louder side of things) Polk (good balance and all round) Diamond (similar story) Again though, this is what they sound like to me, and my opinion of them, you might dislike the sound of the Morels and love the Hertz, ect.... I'm sure you'll have lots of fun in there...Just don't let them talk you into buying any expensive amps, tell them you all ready have the Jaycar ones i linked you too, print the specs off if you want and take them in. Even if you don't go with the Jaycar amps, it will still give you somewhere to stand and you'll be able then to hear some speakers right up to your budget limit. Never walk out either on the same day buying anything, go home with an idea of what your money can get you and mull it over for a while...
no need to get nasty bout it mate. i was just giving my opinion and the experiences ive had, Thats wat forums are about yeh???
Yes, to an extent, but to save later confusion and misleading information, sometimes another, more experienced opinion is needed, otherwise when people read this thread in years to come they may get bad information.
I wasn't being nasty, but your miss spelt and poorly punctuated post had nothing to do with the topic. You talked about things like peak power, said you have a 4 ch amp only running the rears with the front from the head unit, and then went on to talk about capacitors and about how you blew up your last speakers. How does this help the OP? People read things like this and leave thinking that they need 10,000 watts, Sound Stream speakers blow up, and to get a capacitor. A lot of people can't tell which was the accurate advice given, so they are most likely to go with the advice which is closest to what they were hoping they would hear....
Autobarn is fine to listen to speakers. They have good demo boards and many decent speakers in your price range but ALSO visit some specialist stores. On the south-east you have Tower Car Audio in Moorabbin, Freeway Car Audio in Malvern & Dandenong, Frankston Car Audio in Frankston/Langwarrin, Phatt Audio Concepts in Braeside.
Your Autobarn must be a lot better than mine, ours has the usual entry level stuff, and i don't think i've seen a set of components over the $200 mark on the board...
Some Autobarn stores have different ranges and extra brands. Airport West and Narre Warren are apparently two good ones in Vic. I haven't been into my local Autobarn for a few years though and to be honest I wouldn't let them install anything after seeing some of the products I see them return fried or "not working" which they haven't even wired up properly
if you read my post before my last i said that i dont know about rms its confusing, i forgot to add that im planning on running another 2 speakers off my amp in the rear and i never said you need a capacitor (i needed one due to voltage drop) its a safety mechanism so i dont blow my subs. everyones goin on about brands ive never heard of. another thing i did say is GRAB A USB OR CD that has the music on it you listen to and take that with you when you go to listen to speakers as most audio shops usually just use the radio.
