Yeah there probably are better sounding speakers out there for $350. But there's only one dedicated car audio store in my area, and i've been going there a fair bit lately, and there really great guy's who have done me a few favours lately, helping me out with my air-con, and some instalation, so i'd like to keep going back and continue to purchase through them. There a major stockist of pretty much all Alpine products, ( they will order pretty much anything though) but their alpine stuff is all ready to go, which is the main reason for considering the Type R's.

Pretty much most brandsall your mainsteam's, Polk, Precision Power, Denon,Eclipse, Lanzar, JBL, Kicker, Blaupunkt, Fusion ect.. but the only demo board they currently have contains Alpine gear. So direct hearing comparisons aren't really available..

I always like to support guys who go that extra yard for their customers as well.
If you have had a listen to the alpines and are happy with them then I say go for it. Noone I know who uses them has any complaints about reliability issues or anything like that. 125wrms should be plenty to keep them happy as well. My type-x's are something like 75-80wrms and have been getting around 110-120wrms for the last year or so with no problems

Something i haven't seen a lot of lately is Blaupunkt, which they also stock. What are peoples opinions of the Velocity Series splits?
