The lower the percent, the darker the tint. Therefore, the tint on your front windows would be darker than that on your rear windows mate. The % stands for the percentage of light which is allowed through the tint... Anyways just so that there is no confusion here is the law according to VICTORIAN GUIDELINES: "All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35 per cent. However it is desirable that the light transmittance of windows to the side and ahead of the driver not be reduced below 70 per cent. Note Windows above or behind the driver's seating position on some buses are not in the drivers field of view and need not comply with the above light transmittance requirement. The reflectance of any window fitted with tinting film must not be more than 10 per cent (which effectively is the same as untreated glass). A vehicle fitted with a tinted windscreen or window which is not in accordance with the requirements set out in this information sheet is unroadworthy, and subject to the consequences thereof unless the vehicle has been constructed for a special purpose and has been granted exemption from these requirements by VicRoads" Published by VicRoads in their Vehicle Standards Information Bulletin 2: Window Tinting.
Thanks guys. I thought i did a good enough search - turns out I didnt go thru all the results. I will have a read thru all of that
Hey guys thanx for all your help. In the end I gave Tint professor another call. The first time I called them i got a really rude lad on the phone that said "No we dont no removal" and hund up on me. I call them again today and they said they do, do tint removal. I am getting the whole thing done tomorrow. $325 for removal and darkest legal(black colouring) tint as well as darker for rear windscreen. That is the best price by $50 that I have seen anywhere, and I called a lot of people. Thanx again for all the help and will post picture of the completed job very soon.
was this the one in nunna just off whitehorse rd there awesome did mine in 2 hours and gave me a buzz box to thrash i killed it neded a new one and they gave it to me LOL
tinting? just wondering whether or not coloured window tinting is available, or even legal in australia. i know there are regulations for the amount of light that passes through (last i checked, 35% was the darkest you could go in queensland)... and i know coloured tinting is available in the US and a few other countries... but i can't seem to find anything on an australian supplier for it, so was just wondering... are there legal issues there, or is it just lack of demand?
i know that one new model that peugoet makes has a slight red tint so going by that i would say it is legal
Coloured tint is completely LEGAL. As long as it sticks to all other laws. It must let through the minimum amount of light (35%) and must not be any more than 10% reflective.
awesome... now to find a local stockist. if all else fails i can get it in from the US, but i'd rather not have to
Coloured tint is often very expensive as it involves two layers. One layer is the coloured tint followed by another clear film layer. They need a clear layer over the coloured tint, as the coloured tint is not scratch proof.
yeah... it's just to differentiate my car a little from the many other hothouse green commos up here.
Places in Adelaide ask around $600 and up, to give a reference point. You might find a cheaper place though. I looked around a month or two ago as I wanted blue tint for my car, decided its not worth the price.
ah, well, yeah... that's another factor thanks for the info man... oh, yeah, i think i may have asked this before, but can't remember: have you been in the townsville area at any point in the last year or so? i could've sworn i've seen the VN2NV plates around here
Just giving people the heads up that its 70% front and 35% rear in sa. I thought it was 35% all round but regency said nup.....bastards
