it can be done just not the same way as doing older VT/vx with ecu wiring
just need a relay and a switch and some time

find the main feed to thermo fans under bonnet and trigger it with a relay
then run wires into dash and place a switch somewhere
most auto elects can do this for you

or
get ecu rewritten costly but good get tune at same time:)

my ecu has been modded to turn fans on sooner but i also run a switch so can keep it very cool

ive read somewhere that you have to be carefull with the thermo fans comming on to early.
The motor needs a cretain temp to be efficient and non wearing.

i only put it on when in peak hr traffic or its really hot or making the car work hard
but since Ive had ecu rewritten i don't use it much now days
i also use the digital dash to see temp at all times and 88o is perfect temp to be at if on freeway with switch on it will go down bit to low into 70's bit to cold

As long as its within operating temp I'm not sure what the problem is? As mentioned a cold engine can be a bad thing too.
