Hi Guys , Having trouble with the thermo fan on my VS ute [man].The engine seems to be near to the point of boiling before the fan kicks in,and when it does kick in it only stays on for around 20 seconds.I have replaced the relays, sendors, thermostat, ecu even ,with no luck.A guy told me there is another sendor at the back of the motor is this correct? Any advice would be great.cheers
I'm assuming that we are talking about the V6 engine here? If so, there are two items relating to the temperature of the coolant. Both are located just below the thermostat outlet at the top of the block, the SENDER is the small brass fitting with the black rectangular connection, which is the device that gives the temperature gauge on the dash its signal. The other is a thick brass cylinderical type thing, which is the temperature SENSOR, which controls the radiator fan, whilst communicating to the ECU. When you say that the engine seems to be nearly boiling, what makes you say that? What is the gauge showing when the cooling fan comes on? I would have another look at the thermostat, you could have put a dud one in, its happened to me before, but mine was stuck open. I'd also be looking closely at the operation of the water pump, as well as checking out the condition of the radiator and coolant. It might be worthwhile completely flushing the radiator out, and then flushing the entire cooling system, and replacing with the correct coolant, especially the concentration level of 50% water, 50% concentrate.
