I have read about people who have installed switches in their cars that when switched on will activate the fans. Lately my car has been running a bit hotter, especially when sitting in heavy traffic.

So I was wondering how you set up one of these switches? Pictures would be great but anything would help. BTW my car is a VX V6 Berlina if that changes anything.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Being a VX should you really have to worry about that though?

Although mine has no mods at all I drive on 40 degree days with the air cond on and it stays on the same temp as it does any other time. IF that is the case I'm gonna watch what mods i do, more stuffing around....

It's not really a problem, just an item i would like to do. Just today my car reached 100 degrees just sitting in traffic before it slowly started to come down to 94 degrees and sitting there. I suspect my radiator may need a good flush soon.

acarmody those temps are correct not a blocked radiator
there is a mod on jc for doing the thermo switch and it makes a huge diference in hot weather can get mine down to 78-80 even on 40o days
also if you have aircon on it turns fans on so it shouldnt over heat anyways
ive done a few cars now and all happy wiht new temps

I took my car to the mechanics the other day to fix a problem i had with the car, and while there I told them to do a complete coolant and radiator flush, he called up later and told me my radiator is so full of **** that he can't clear it and that it also has a small leak.

I quite trust this mechanic so I don't think he is lying, and i saw the coolant come out of my car and it made mud look clear (thanks holden, my service was only 3 weeks prior).

Anyway with a new radiator there should not be any problems so this switch idea is probably quite useless, just an idea.

    Was a 1997 vt v6 wagon
Just a quick point to watch, if you are going to have a new radiator fitted, just enquire how much the cost is going to be for the unit. I have seen them advertised here for $170 for a v6 auto. (Local auto shop and local mechanics workshop) Mate in Darwin was ripped off recently when he was charged around $280 just for the unit, plus fitting.

I paid $240 for a brand new radiator, I rang a number of places, Coventries, Repco etc etc and Hubby assisted me installing it. That was the cheapest we found.

Well my car might not go as fast as a fully worked V8 or be a stylish as some super cars. But it has more style and speed than me on a push-bike or worse a 4 cylinder, lol.
