Hey all,

Looks like I have a failing thermostat, looks to be getting stuck in the closed position every now and then.

I called up a Holden parts centre and they sell thermostats for $120.
Yet, other sites sell them way cheaper at $40.

Any difference between the thermostats Holden sell and this one? IIRC Holden use Dayco parts anyway?

I have always found the genuine Holden parts for things like thermostats and sensors much better than cheaper after market brands. I would check the price that you have been given by Holden. The current price for a genuine Holden thermostat for a 6.0L V8 is $45.00. I think they may have quoted for the housing as well, which maybe isn't necessary in your case.

I have further checked the price for a genuine Holden thermostat. The part number is 89018168 and for your 2013 model SSV the price is $95.70 which includes the inlet pipe (thermostat housing) and seal.

Thanks heaps for looking into it! They actually quoted me $116 point something but it's a bit of a difference to the $95.70 there.

Is it? I understood it was behind the engine, almost up against the firewall and difficult to access.
This is true for the V6 not the V8. On the v8 it's on the front of the engine, right behind the radiator.

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
V8 is a dream.
V6 is gearbox out to access or 2 weeks, lots of blood and gone skin, several nervous breakdowns and use of mirrors to get at it from the engine bay.
You don't need to worry about that.
