Thermostat Gasket

So my mace thermostat, oring and gasket turned up today.
Which way does the adhesive glue go, on the Block or on the Housing
Also the gasket has a bit extra that just hangs out on the left side, not covered by housing or anything, seems a bit strange.
Forgot to add this is for a L67

I normally put the RTV on both the manifold and the housing.

It already has adhesive tape glued on 1 side of gasket so i figured you only glue 1 side

Not a rule but sticky side to the brand new thermo housing and goo on the manifold...but if its a used housing goo both sides otherwise the f*cker will weep
