more calls for P Plate restrictions (in Vic atleast anyway.)

so lets wrap people in more cotton wool, because a few idiots cannot follow basic laws.
lets make it more difficult for the people who follow the laws.
and lets say that these new "ideas" (restrictions) are because of the behaviour, when they have no link to whats occured whatsoever.

and then the sheeple that think they are great ideas when they clearly have no common sense themselves.

for example. this is exactly what was written
"lets have a 5 year ban on all young drivers from having passengers whatsoever"
yeah no worries.
so your parents want to go out to a friends place, and they know they may have a few drinks. so now im not allowed to go pick them up?
so you dont drink, and your friends may. oh wait, no more designated drivers.
you want to go to work with a workmate, because you live 5mins from eachother and its a one hour trip each way. nope cant do that either.
boss asks you to drive the work car. nope cant do that either
you and a few mates want to take a boat down to the boat ramp. yup lets take a few cars instead of only 1 spot.
the list is bloody endless with stupidity that would be caused :s

same with the night curfew they are thinking of.
yeah no worries, you cant drive your parents home from a restraunt/families place after a night where they may have had a few drinks.
cant drive to/from work
cant go catch your plane if its at an ungodly hour.
cant go take a boat down to the bay nice and early for fishing
cant drive nice and early to go to golf/sport
list also goes on.

why dont people understand a harsher penalty would be more god damned effective then restrictions.
*sigh*

Lets just stop treating opinionated kids as adults and give them NO rights until they are 21.

^^^ watch how many times that sentence gets quoted, on its own and out of context. ;)

OK, that's not going to work. Neither is just giving them the right to do anything they like as soon as they feel they want to.

Its part of living in a society. There are rules, there have to be.

I'm actually on your (the P platers) side regarding many P plater restrictions. They are just plain silly, too draconian to be serious. Limits to what hours you can drive and how many you can have in the car, I mean FFS is that really going to achieve anything?

I'm NOT on your side when it comes to an inexperienced driver and limits in what they can drive. There certainly should be rules. The way they are applied are rather stupid though... a simple power to weight ratio guideline would work best in IMO. A physical size requirement might be useful too, give an inexperienced driver a chance to learn to park and control a small car before you give him a cruiser or impala.

The same should apply to motorcycles.. power to weight ratio rather than CCs.

Interestingly, I have never seen, anywhere in any media, a motorcycle rider complaining about graded licences. That's because partly because bikers as a group are so much more aware of the consequences of a mistake, but probably also has more to do with CCs not being the best way to grade a licence of course, small bikes can be unbelievably quick.

Obviously the current motorcycle licensing scheme works fabulously though , your odds of survival are so much lower on a bike..

It should be done on both. There is no doubt more CCs allow more power but some bikes come out with a higher power to weight ratio. I've seen bright kids get a bike and work on it to get more power yet the bike looks standard and therefore for all intents and purposes is legal while in reality is to much for a kid just on their Ps

Motorcycle licenses are already classed on power to weight and you cant legally modify a lams class bike.
