Or people who incorrectly advise people that an auto is inferior to a manual. A modern auto changes gears faster than anyone can change a manual. It saves a huge amount of wear and tear on the rest of the drivetrain too.
'Sludgomatics' no longer exist. Formula 1 cars only use a clutch to move off from standstill, and even then its now just a button on the steering wheel. It even 'automatically' engages the clutch when the car has a spin or something, to avoid stalling. Yes, they change gears manually, but the clutch is not used.
Its a matter of preference, manuals are more fun IMO, but certainly not superior. Semi-autos are the best of both worlds at the moment, allowing you to change down as easily and effectively as a manual. It wont be long until all cars are not available with a manual gearbox, simply because autos are better in almost every respect.
