Totally agree. The softly/nice approach was great the first time around but there have been to many 2nd and 3rd chances.

I probably should add, those 3 are stuck in quarantine at their own expense.

Authorities are putting too much trust in people's honesty.

I travelled to NSW from Melbourne last week for work during lockdown.
I got tested, filled out a declaration, got letters from my employer and client to say why I was there.
All they checked getting off the plane was my driver's licence and that I had said I'd not been to a hot spot.
No follow up, or further checks. Basically a wave through and I was loose in NSW.

Many decades ago, there was a cholera outbreak in one of the big cities in India. There was no delay in authorities announcing an immediate lockdown with the military immediately cordoning off the city to stop the spread of the disease. Unpalatable yes but it worked and the outbreak was contained and could be well managed.

Oddly, when there is an COVID outbreak, we announce a lockdown starting in a few days. All that does is give those who want to “escape“ the legal ability to freely do so. It‘s just ludicrous to delay a lockdown in such a way  Surprisingly, we haven’t had and big spreads due to such delays in lockdown (ignoring the stupidity of Ruby Princes)

And yet an article today saying these arseholes shouldn't be vilified.
I agree they shouldn’t be vilified.

But they should be investigated by police, arraigned if there is evidence of a crime, tried and if found guilty of breaking the law they should be jailed ;)

If they told the truth they would have been in quarantine in any case so it’s no punishment at all for their deception.
