vs commodore
Out of curousity how many of you that have this noise have pacemaker extracters ? and is it more noticeable when your idling near a barrier especially on the drivers side down low ?

My VS ecotec has pacemakers and it gets a "leaky exhaust sound" when slowly driving past road barriers or idling next to a wall etc, and it sounds terrible. Ive been right over the whole exhaust system checking for leaks, and Ive also had it back to the exhaust specialist to get them to check it for leaks, which they found none, they could hear it plainly enough, but they couldnt work out what was causing it either.

I think the noise with extractors is due to them being thin walled tube, as the exhaust exits the heads it makes a pinging noise that sounds just like a stuffed lifter

I have some extractors that also do it but they are a no name brand

VS l67 statesman
Ive seen threads on this same noise plenty times it seems to be a V6 thing weather its a buick, ecotec or l67 and the one thing they have in commom is extractors and a lot are like my L67 they have had the timming chain replaced and balance bar disconected and it still hasnt fixed it but all of them are still going strong

I have pacemakers and I do not have that noise. I do have noise from a pulley though.

Just an update to my problem. I have had a broken clutch pedal spring for a while and I changed it today, and along with a nice smooth, soft pedal; i appear to not have any rattling or grinding noise when warmed up at idle. THANK GOD. hopefully this might help someone else

My wife and I both have VY Series 2 Commodores....3.8 litre V6...., both which have around 155,000 Ks on them.
My wife's has run on LPG most of its life but now has a rattle that really sounds to me like the timing chain. Of course it may be something else, but that's what my experience with other cars (years ago) tells me. It's not REALLY loud, and it's not a low noise.

It only makes this noise when I accelerate while the engine is getting up to operating temperature....though it may be there a little after that...I'm not 100% sure.

If I leave it for a while and start driving it again, the noise re-appears until the engine is hot again. Any suggestions, please ? Having LPG usually causes less engine wear, but I don't really know the history of that car....we bought it recently.

Sounds like a balance shaft rattle, LD.
