Hey, have just fitted new cam in vk, is all bedded in with timing by ear but wanna set exact with gun. Is the timing 12 degrees standard, have forgotten. Oh and its vn 304 by the way? Auto?

pretty sure its 12 degrees probly needs some advance tho

yep 12 degrees is the BASE timing for an EFI 5L
just make sure you set the timing in diagnostic/field service mode or it will be completely wrong

its 10 deg in diag mode. not 11 no 11.5 its 10

Yeah don't know where people get 12deg from its 10deg on all models in diagnostic mode.

hey do you guys know wich pins to bridge on a vt 5ltr to set base timing cheers

Pin 5 & 6 pretty easy. use a paper clip.

Standard timing is definitely 10° BTDC, however, if you want some more grunt than fill it with 98ron fuel and advance the base timing to 12-14° BTDC. Just watch out for pinging as the revs rise.

Just to add, advancing the base timing can make it a bit harder to start so you will want a decent battery.
