VS Executive (Bench Seat) Sedan 1996
Hi,

I have a 1996 VS Exec Commodore Sedan (with bench seat).

About a month ago the car wouldn't start.

The NRMA said the battery was old (& checked the alternator was still charging, etc), so they replaced the battery.

A week later the car wouldn't start again. The NRMA said the battery was flat and needed charging.

I took the car to an auto electrician who tried to work out what was draining the battery. He couldn't fined anything.

Long story short - the battery is still being discharged even though it looks like nothing is draining it (remove fuse for indoor lights).

Any tips on what it could be?

Many thanks

Take the globe out of the boot and see if it still goes flat.

reg ont he alternator may need replacing, or the brushes int he alternator have gone shot and need replacing, or it could be something is getting is constant power, maybe a headunit? any way, if it's the alternator, which it probably is, just get it re-built, usualy the only thing that get's rebuilt are the brushes which aren't expensive at all.....if it's something getting constant power, then i would be re-directing that wire to the ignition switch so it can only ge power when the key is in.....see how you go....

need to load test altenator
use a multimeter on battery terminals on volts (duh)
start car
turn evrything on that you can
see if multimeter still displays around 14 volts
if not altenator rebuild at auto elecies

if does charge under load see next!~

lock car when leaving it parked and dont leave keys in it
check if ALL lights INSIDE and OUTSIDE are off when locked
check battery terminals tight and clean
check if anything you recently added to the car is staying on when car locked
if none of the above you need to do an amp draw test
this is complex and most take to auto elecie to do this

hope this helps!~
