Tips on Spraying metallic

hey guys....lookin at gettin a work car so im gonna spray up the wagon....just wondering if anyone can give us a few tips on laying down the metallic color? ive herd a few things like, "you have to spray the panels while they are on the car because the mettalic sets with the light" and stuff like that.....is this true??

doing it on the car gets all the panels the same amount of coats at the same time with the same mix of paint so the colour and metallic effect is consistent.
how big an area would 1 need to paint it in pieces. I currently have a similar delamer with my ek and don't have metallic to contend with but where I've put 1 coat on the colour is different to panels with 4 coats on them.
do the jams and back mask them then the body or set everything up so you can paint them all at the same time.
