Noooo just wanted to see next weeks as they were gonna trash vn's doing stunts, it was never going to be objective on a commercial network as its sponsored by several car manufacturers and they can't be too critical or channel 9 might lose a commercial customer. put it on ABC get 3 funny hosts and the show will make itself, the auto world is full of comedy.
The original Top Gear succeeded for 2 reasons. Firstly and most importantly, its the personalities. Without all 3 of the hosts, TG UK wouldnt be the same either. They make a perfect team. Secondly, TG UK is NOT just a car show. Its a toys for boys show. Its all about doing the things you always wanted to do, like drop a 300tonne chimney on a perfectly good car, or turning a Hilux into a boat, or putting pedal to the metal in a Veyron till you run out of road. Or drive a tank.. Mix that up with racing base jumpers down a mountain, or freeclimbers up one, or racing pushbikes across London, or racing a Veyron against a light plane across Europe, and you have something that interests all boys. There isnt one of us who wouldnt want to be living Clarksons life.. All that kind of stuff takes money and the right presenters. TG OZ had neither. No loss.
All copies miss the point. It’s not about being a serious car show despite the serious cars. It’s about entertainment. Much like the Footy show isn’t about footy. Unfortunately that’s just not very entertaining either….
TG is promoted as a car show, which it fails at. Ok maybe I'm on my own here, but honestly all that stuff you mention bores me. And no I wouldn't want Clarkson's life either.... I'd love the opportunity to drive the cars he gets given the keys too, but I'd be taking the cars to the track, where these cars can really demonstrate what they were entirely designed to do. I want to see cars pitted against each other in proper performance tests. I'd much rather see a test (for example) between a Veryon vs a Porsche or GTR down the drag strip and then around a circuit. Ford Mustang vs Camaro, Corvette or HSV/GTO The TG UK gets some awesome cars to play with and all they do is stuff around with them doing pointless crap. What a waste!
I agree it would be cool to have more than one car on the track at once, but surely lap times that they get from every performance car that goes in there is a reasonable start? If they pitted one against another, one could win on the merits of its driver rather than the car. All the cars they time are around the same track with the same driver. As for living Clarksons life, I would. Its all about F.U.N and he has a lot of it. Hes not short of a buck either. Arent burnouts, donuts, drag racing, and car racing all pointless crap in reality? It doesnt need to have a point to be fun though...
It's not the best remake but this is channel nine. how many shows have come on and cut this year. when they feel like showing the rest its always at a later date. take the uk TG, what back for 4 episodes and that's the end of the series? wtf.
sure a lot of the stuff might be fun if I was doing it myself...... (well actually I'd still find far more fun things to do if I was handed the keys to a Ferrari etc), but not exactly fun to watch.... drag racing and circuit all offer performance results of a car - so no they aren't pointless. They actually demonstrate the ability of a performance car. Dropping chimneys on cars, turning a Hilux into a boat or racing a million dollar supercar against a plane is however pointless.
Yep. TGA floated like a lead brick. For some strange reason I'm bored of TG and lost interest in watching The Stig chuck a car around a track. Ken Block is more interesting and there's better stuff evolving all the time on YouTube (eg rogercordia the "Cordia King", etc). How's this for a pitch: Just Commodores TV. Commercials and all! I hope the show "4WD TV" makes it to free to air television one day soon. Now that's a great show!
Demonstrating the ability of a performance car is pointless, because a performance car is pointless. Its only reason for existence is that you, I and a couple billion other people happen to think that they are fun. Fun is the point. Thats it.
the wiggles are fun if testing the ability of a performance car is pointless, then what is the point of having performance cars on TG at all ? Why not just use Hyundai Excels to exercise their fun activities ? It's like going to watch the V8 Supercars race, only to find them driving in reverse gear around the track because it's fun.....
I could never get into it I mean I watched it last night and it was just stupid testing a cherry?? I mean seriously the only highlight was the Suzuki might boy with the lsx in it ! But lacks the personalities and the nice cars so I'm really not surprised ! As long as top gear UK is still on the air!!
Name one useful purpose for a performance car that doesnt involve giving someone pleasure. They are pointless, they are for fun. Thats not a bad thing, having sex after your 3rd child is pointless too, but do you stop doing it because its pointless?
they never really got it. Original top gear was crap... if you make a show purely about auto porn, it comes down to taste, you look at fifth gear, some people love it a lot of people hate it, becuase you cant get a whole audience to watch your show when your trying to tell them how awesome a lotus is to people that think theyre crap. And to add to it, having them try and act like they know what they are talking about... clarkson, may and hammond never act like they are experts, and just try to be entertaining which is whats to love, which is also why the really hardcore auto crowd dont seem to like it, they want hardcore autoporn in their flavour, representing their thoughts, take the morris fanboys for example. Top gear got ruined in australia when nine got all the rights and started milking it crazy, you now cant have a fathers day without top gear products everywhere from mass marketting, or walk into a newsagent without deagostino trying to sell you two episodes of top gear for $2 and then the next disc is $18.95 Top Gear UK has a great spirit and its entertaining..... so we overlook how much it gets milked and thank heavens for the internet and being able to get episodes in full without channel 9 showing them at a differant time each week, holding them off until they dont have something they are **** scared about ratings for it to go up against, and when they finally do show it, 3 months after its aired in the UK, it mysteriously fits into a one hour time slot with 15 minutes of ads. The first aussie top gear..... wasnt entertaining... they were fanboys... they tried to sound intelligent (only works if you are intelligent). They add james morrisson to make it entertaining didnt work. Channel 9 gets it, kicks off the only entertaining guy on the show, keeps the annoying one and tries to add kenny. It wasnt going to work. 2012 they'l pay merrick and rosso stacks of money to come back and host a new top gear and chuck paul hogan or vince colossimo on with them to complete the trio... and then there will be another damn episode where they compare two hatchbacks or VW's to see which is cooler, even though no one will care... and it will get axed again
It wont be missed.. It might of worked if they did their own thing, but they tried to copy BBC top gear too much.. I like how BBC top gear do it, they dont do the whole show just about cars, the meander of onto tangents, and do challenges, even if you dont like ferrari's and high end sports cars, you can still get a laugh out of the challenges. Thats what makes the show work, it has segments for everyone..
Russel Ingall, Rick Bates and Tom Gleeson could maybe pull it off - so long as it wasn't produced by channel 9 and the show was actually given some room to move.
It was always going to be difficult coming up with a successful Ocker TG. For instance, TG has a basic format for the majority of the shows, comprising a road test of some hugely powerful and totally irrelevant European car, the personality in a reasonably priced car, news and another feature. Sometimes, the show had a challenge and the specials were devoted totally to some weird driving challenge like crossing South America. It has three highly entertaining comperes who bounce off each other beautifully. How could TG Aus match that? Any exoticar would already have been tested by TGUK, as they get the cars long before we see them. Reasonably priced car - as mentioned, we came up with an old Falcon ute - very Aus and bloody stupid. Challenges - driving an HQ to Lake Eyre for sailboarding or somesuch. Sorry guys, somebody beat you to it (in 1970!). There was nothing new or distinctly different from the UK format and the comperes, apart from Shane Jacobsen, were a cure for insomnia. The show lacked originality or imagination and it was being shown on Channel 9, with a one hour show becoming 90 minutes thanks to incessant advertising. It was born to fail.
replace rick bates with Tony quinn, the bates brothers both put me to sleep lol, also give top gear U.S. a watch if you haven't yet its almost as good as the british one
