Total loss of power. All lights, dash lights, radio etc turn off then back on again.

A dying battery can cause a lot of gremlins, but total power loss I'd be betting ignition switch.

Did you manage to fix your issue? I am stuck with a similar problem...please let me know what fixed yours? I noticed that there is trip computer reading in the instrument cluster called "ADC BRAKE READING" when this reading goes over 2.5, it does exactly what you described, at the moment I am running every electrical instrument/device that I can to keep the reading low..! Guessing it might be related to high voltage/amps being sent out by the battery or the alternator.

Mate this is about all that is said regarding ADC in the workshop manual, if you go to section 5B ABS it tells you no more. Other than you can be assured it is related to the ABS or TCS/ESP etc. It does mention that high current draining devices etc can cause faults.


ADC Brake Reading
The braking system uses a variable resistance network to
determine if the brake system is faulty.
This shows the current reading that the instrument cluster
has made of the resistor network, and is shown in Volts. The
standard operating value is from 0.800 Voltage to 2.800
Volts if the reading is outside this range, refer to 5B ABS for
further diagnosis.

Thanks for the info Buddy. It turned out to the alternator, while the car was stationary the output from the alternator was ~13.8V, but while in gear it sometimes shot up to 18V+, and everything died. we could see the alternator related logs in Tech2, it will be sorted in a couple of hours, thanks all for the help.

Hi, not yet.

Replaced ignition switch, and ignition barrel (as I broke barrel playing with it).

Still cutout, So took to a mechanic today for Scan Tool check.

Few fault codes came up, so they reset and car Cutout again.

New fault codes are

- Engine control ignition relays
- EEPROM check sum error
-No serial data BCM

Mechanic cleaned earth points and swapped out ignition control relay and main relay.

Car STILL cut out GRRRR

Also said charge system very low/not charging and suggested to replace alternator before investigating further.
BUT battery doesn't run flat, so not sure if this would cause car to cut out? does anybody know if this would cause this?

Going to try tapping alternator to see if brushes maybe stuck?, temporary fix I know, but if it is that at least I will know before replacing it.

Will keep posting progress

i just had similar in my adventra lx8 but never lost engine power just lights and dash, only did it at night just after start up and sometimes up to 10 mins after setting off. alternator was spiking power so replaced it and now its all fixed

Hey mate did you end up finding out what it was, my Vz is doing the same thing everthing keeps cutting out, my radio turns on and off and it keeps coming ou up with abs fault, even when I wind the windows up the radio will cut out
