IVE HAD SUSPENSION AND SHOCKS CHECKED AND ITS DEFINITELY NOT THEM... thanks ppl..
Adjust the Door Striker. Hi, It sounds like the door striker to me. When I put GT Gas struts into my VS S2, I had the same problem. I sprayed the striker with silicone lubricant, and the problem went away. That was about two years ago now, and the problem has not resurfaced. Hope this helps.
Door Striker The door striker is the part to which the door locks when it is closed. Spray the silicone lubricant on the striket on the door jamb, and into the "teeth" of the locking mechanism on the door. The striker plate is also fitted by screws, and can be adjusted if the lubricant doesn't work.
yeh i have the same problem..the holden dudes saids it might be the rubbers (dont know where) that have coroded away or something like that
ill see what can be done... if i can fix it up with the lube ill just jam somethin at the bottom so the door dosent move any more...
VS Commodores usually dont need striker rubbers, these only prevent excess sound when closing the door, and they arnt an intergural part in the doors functionality. If the lubricant spray doesnt prevent the problem your best bet is to find yourself an allen key that has the hex end on it that is suited to the striker hold down bolts. You will notice the bolts have eight (i think) corners (like a star), loosen these but dont take them right out, move the striker in the direction of the door (away from the car) slightly, not too much or the door wont close, then tighten them back up. The trouble is finding the special allen key needed, pop inot your local auto parts shop or Holden dealer. Hope this helps you. Dont like the idea of packing the door with cardboard to stop the noise. If not it could be a door locking mechanism problem. :b:
My 2 cents worth... I replaced all suspension components on my ride and found that going fast over mid corner bumps made the front doors bang, or jiggle?? I replace all the door strikers with VX ones from holden? abouts $2 each i think with bolts! Set them up in the spots to hold the doors tight and the bang stopped!! and the doors close like a new commodore now too! the rubber looks fair better as well then plain metal with grease all over it!!! Drive on.... :w00t:
I have the same problem in my VS SII...after reading these posts I thought I'd have a look a bit closer at mine...I noticed that in the catch part of the lock(the bit on the door that catches) there is a lot of plastic in there and mine has cracks through it on both doors(both doors make the noise) but the rears were fine(and dont make the noise...) So I'm wondering if this is the problem...Im considering replacing them but I know doors can be a real bitch to work on at the best of times due to little to no working room in them so if anyone has any experience in this area how about some tips??? ps the tool you need to remove/adjust the striker as mentioned in an earlier post is a Torx t30 bit...
The probable reason both your front doors are making noises and not your rears is due to the fact your pastic cover over the catch on the strikers is worn. Once the pastic goes the locking arm mechanism on the door itself is less effect because the pastic cover is prob thick enough to stop the lock moving around. As soon as the pastic is gone the striker is thinner and therefore not as effective, in turn the (as you said the door is a tricky instument to get right) the door can move slightly. Simply adjust the striker a little to compensate for the lost plastic cover, allowing the arm on the lock itself to contact the striker better. You may only need to move it a few millimeters, so less is more in most cases. Its basically a case of trial and error. The door may be a little louder when closing but its better than buying new strikers. You cannot simply buy the plastic covers unfortunately. Hope this helps all you door enthusists out there P.S cheers for that tool name, it was on the tip of my tounge / fingers
