Hey guys, trying to get my Prado back on the road today and need some input.

1998 Toyota Prado
3.4L V6

It hasn't been started in 9 months, I've just dropped the oil and filter and replaced it. I know that after 9 months, the remaining fuel will be stale but the catch is, when I start it, the engine runs perfectly. Goes into high idle and sits at 1,100 (normal) but when it goes to settle down, it struggles, starts missing like crazy and eventually dies. Turn the key, starts straight back up and continues all over again. It can run for about 30 seconds before this happens again.

Jump in and drive it. My ute regularly sits around for months and can't idle after sitting for long periods.
Absolute pig to drive until it's warm.
Bahaives the same as when I disconnect the battery for a while.

New fuel probably would hurt either

New point to add... When its stumbling and missing, it will randomly backfire through the intake. Now to me this points towards a timing issue which would be computer related.

Naf33n, hesitant to drive it as when I hold the rpms up in to driving range 2.5-4k rpm, the problem still reappears. Working on it at home by myself... No one can come rescue me. Lol.

Think I still have a 20l jerry can. Might fill it up and dilute it the old ****. I can't justify taking the two tanks out and draining them. Not yet anyway.

-Edit-
Just cleaned the MAF. Didn't expect it to be dirty because I always give it a spray every oil change. No change.

Haha haha haha haha

Ha.

I can now take ######## of the year award.

Problem started getting worse. Wouldn't even high idle. Then realized I had the fuel switched to an empty tank. Flicked onto the sub tank and the bitch sprang into life.

Hey... I least admitted it hehe

i fkn did that with fluffy when i had the old haltech. finally started making progress on the tune all running nice, suddly starts to run rough, losing power, stalls when in gear etc till finally it gave up totally... i went through ALL the settings and changed heaps of **** in the hope it'd fix it, then realised it had no fuel... and good ol' me hadnt saved any of the changes i made... so after i filled up had to start over.

brilliant.
