A mate of mine was saying TC wears your rear brakes very quickly, was just wondering if anyone has had expeirience with this or whats your opinion. Obviously i know that the more it activates the more its going wear, but every day when i go up my driveway my traction control is on the whole way to get me up there and i notice that my rear brakes are starting to squeak a little bit when reversing. Anyway, just somethin to think about.

No it actually applies the breaks aswell. It breaks the wheel that has lost traction.

But no it doesnt wear out your breaks:bang: .

Wouldn't that give that wheel even less traction?...

No It slows the wheel speed down, thus allowing it to gain traction again.

As somebody else posted, it would wear by such a small amount it is too small to worry about. The less you bag up the rears, the less you will wear them and you get far better tyre life too :).

When I replaced my pads at 42,000 The rears still had about 40% left, the fronts had maybe 10%. So I'd say youve got nothign to worry about

(I did all new pads/rotors anyway)

Two fold, it transfers the power to the side that does have traction, and brings the wheel speed closer to the road speed...

How does that work? Obviously if its applying the breaks then its going to wear them...

Also depends on the vehicle as to the level of force exerted when traction is lost, the AWD's apply alot more brake to get out of sticky situations, and tend to overheat the system fairly quickly... Doing reconaisance for the QLD round of the Australian Rally Championship we had the traction control turn off twice because the abs pump overheated the fluid...

Same story on the beach, the traction controlled AWD's are brilliant on the beach until they turn off and then you have a two tonne, 3 open diffed commodore spinning diagonally apposed wheels! Been there done that! :ranting:

I wouldn't be worried about brake wear, seriously, a full set of good pads are only $65 and performance pads are only $100... :whistling Its not even worth worrying about...

In 25,000k's i've gone through two sets of front brake pads, and am just about to change the rears... Mind you i regulary tow two tonne of rally car and trailer, spend copious amounts of time with the traction control going nuts, and do tarmac rallying in it... What it cost me? About $75! :D
