VT Acclaim S2 Wagon
I have a Series 2 Acclaim Wagon with an Auto Trannie, I have been having a problem with it for a few months now so thought I would see what you guys think it may be.

While I am driving my car the check engine light comes on but just before it does the car gives a bit of a shutter which feels like it comes from the trannie. Now, while the check engine light is on and I go up a steep hill the trannie wont kick down gears or worst of all if I am over taking it will not kick down.

When the engine light isnt on and I am sitting on 100 - 110 it is still in third gear and to get it in to fourth i have to stick the boot into the accelerator and lift my foot off the accelerator to get it to go in to fourth. When I go to work i have to go up a hill but have to turn off to go up the hill so when I slow down it kicks down to second but as I start going up hill it will kick in to third and then fourth which feels like I have no power but I have my foot nearly flat to the floor and then it will drop back to second then as it picks up speed it will kick up to third and then fourth.

This is really starting to annoy me as i am only getting 450 kms to a tank of fuel where I was getting 800 kms to a tank.

Sorry, i've tried reading your post a few times and I can't figure out what you mean.

As a start however, check this Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) and see what has triggered your 'check engine' light.

as far as kick down problems, i'm not much help cause my VN uses a cable which i can adjust/check and I believe the VR & VS use electronics.
So best you check what the error code is, cuase I have a sneaking suspicion it may point you in the right direction.

Hes talking about a VT, not sure VR/VS error codes will help him. Although there will be something similar for VT.

Could it possibly be the solenoids inside the transmission?

Sounds like it. 3/2 shift solenoid could be the culprit

Very easy to get the part from your local transmission place or even on eBay as the 4L60E is an extremely common trans. I'd pay no more than $50. Can easily find it cheaper.

Hi VT Fan

Sounds like your transmission might be slipping. On my last coupla of general services the mechanics found my car gave out Error 85 which is (something like) Transmission Slipping Not Matching Engine Revs, or something like that. Might pay to take it to a transmission specialist.

Mine does it when going to work on the Monash, doing 100kmh at just below 2000rpm then all of a sudden the gearbox shudders and Im still doing 100kmh but at 3000rpm and it wont change till you turn the car off. Let me know if that happens to you. If it does, probably same as mine. Just nursing it till I get the money to fix the gearbox. Bloody cars! haha
