Hi guys nd gurls. im having trouble with my VR commodore. im trying to take the transmission outa the wrecker i just bought and put it into my car. my transmission is shot to s***. reverse wont engage, it will work fine in drive for about 500 m then it locks itself into 2nd or 3rd depending on which way i hold my tounge. lol. now ive undone the tail shaft, the electrickary, the shifter selecter, the main bolts holding it to the engine. now im stuck. im no mechanic and im trying to make do with the tools i have. no hoist and only 2 lil jacks holding up the tranny. how can i access the torque converter if i cant get the cover plate off. its just 2 bolts holding it on and i cant access them.... and then i still have to do the same to my car and refit the new trans. any ideas or suggestions would help. cheers

p.s. sorry for ramboling on so much.

Put the bolts back on that hold the trans to the engine, then remove cover plate, rotate engine with screwdriver in flex plate ring gear, undo flex plate to TQ bolts then remove the trans/eng bolts. Use a trolley jack under the trans...with a piece of wood between the jack head and trans sump. You are crazy doing it under 2 jacks (not to say I ain't done the same).

    thanks

hey thanks mate. the reason im using 2 jacks is cos i used up my last dollars and cents as well as my mums to go to perth and pick up the wrecker and pay for it. i know im crazy but it has to be done and i cant afford to hav a mechanic do it for me. if i cant track one down b4 thurs ill go buy one. themain trouble im having is the 2 lil bolts(13 mm i think)on the underside. and what did you mean by rotate eht engine? like the crank shaft? and do i undo the torque converter from the underside only or can i do it from the top 2??? PLZ HELP lol
    :hmmm:

Not sure what you mean by the 2 little bolts on the underside...I guess they are the ones that hold the torque converter coverplate on....they should be easily undone, then you undo the bolts attaching the flexplate to the converter and push the converter away from the engine .....then you undo the bolts that actually connect the trans to the donk. If you have a library nearby, visit them and borrow the workshop manual or PM me your email address and I'll scan the page and send to you.

Just incase you haven't done it remove the starter motor.
then remove the tin cover on the bottom of the bell housing.
undo the bolts holding the torque converter to the driveplate/flywheel by undoing one bolt then rotate the motor by turning the crankshaft to the next bolt.
when the bolts have been removed, push the torque converter back away from the driveplate into the belhousing.
you should now be able to remove the bolts holding the bellhousing on the motor.
I hope that helps a bit.
