Well i have just got the biggest Trans-cooler that i could find and iam going to fit it this weekend.
Do the VE's come with a trans cooler from Holden and if so would it just be a case of replacing it out with my new one?.The only thing that looks hard is to identify the oil flow/return line, but i think it would be the coolest line.
If anyone has tips on fitting a cooler to a SS, any help would be great.
    Cheers

I understand the highway patrol VE SS's have gMH one fitted and you can buy them and have fitted at dealer.. Certainly was the case in Series 1 VEs.

No they dont, most just run through the radiator.

The radiator is the stock cooler for the tranny.

I'm looking at the same thing for my Sportswagon, found out that AC Delco make the kit for the Police Spec model... apparently fits the six as well.
If you're local Holden dealer is any good, he might point you in the right direction.
The diagram might give you an idea what you're up against, all I'm looking at getting is the pipe assembly and work from there. Tranny cooler.JPG

if you have located the fluid lines then just add into what is already there. so split one line, doesnt really matter which one and add in new lines out to where the external cooler is going to be fitted. hook it all up and add more tranny fluid then test for leaks.

doing it this way means the fluid will go threw both radiator cooler and the external cooler so figuring out which line is which doesnt matter because no matter which line you split and add too the fluid will still go through both coolers

    Again for the intellectually challenged.

The radiator is the standard trans cooler, they do NOT have a proper trans cooler from factory.

My mistake then. I've seen the lines running to the radiator, but always thought they had their own trans cooler.

If towing or driving in 'harsh conditions' it is good policy to install an additional transmission oil cooler. Much cheaper than a re-build of your transmission which, if subjected to frequent high temperatures, will eventually fail (die).

The standard transmission fluid cooling arrangement is via a small tank in the bottom of the radiator.

Auto Transmission specialist generally recomend that you keep the fluid flowing through the standard cooler in conjunction with the extra cooler as this assists the engine to achieve optimum startup temperature(s) etc. Also, keeping the standard connection in addition to an extra cooler will provide maximum cooling at all times.

If you are regularly towing Holden recommend that you servce the vehicle (engine oil, transmission fluid and differential oil) more frequently.

Here's some tips (photos too) of how to go about such installation etc: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...-1997/203720-vs-aftermarket-trans-cooler.html
