I found i have a leak around my trans sump and picked up the trans service kit, going to get the fluid tomorrow, which brands have you used and would you recommend along with what brands youve found troublesome. Cheers
I've used valvoline DX-III for many years (try to pick it up on special and have a bottle or 2 sitting aside in advance) I'd never use any cheaper shop branded stuff (even though it's usually bottled by a larger well known company, it's cheaper for a reason) Any decent brand name fluid should be good quality, valvoline, penrite etc etc, have you tried nipping the pan bolts up a little tighter to see if the leak stops?
Nah i didnt want to over torque them, figured its had no service history for over 100,000kms, so best to just replace it and know its gonna last me, plus i bought a torque gauge so i can tighten them to spec
personally I would just go for AC Delco DexronIV but any good brand of Dexron III or Dexron IV will be ok
Ended up with a great deal, got 2 4L bottles of valvolene atf type f for $34 cos bottles were damaged
I personally would not use that oil as it is specifically for ford not gm auto's I paid $39 for 4L of AC Delco DEXRON III fluid the other day from my local bullseye
was thinking the same as trikky in regards to using type f but from a quick look at some older us gm forums it isn't uncommon, probably not advisable to put in a new trans under warranty but an older worn trans apparently the different friction materials in the fluid can be a bonus..... might give it a go in the 4l60e/th700 bitsa leftovers box i have here if i ever get it back in a vehicle lol
I personally would not use type F oil in any transmission which uses Dexron 111 - the manufacturer advises against this Mobil Type F Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
