Hi all,
Have a stock standard 93 vr and want to do a few performance mods, one of the first things i was looking at was the transmission. After reading alot of posts on these forums i thought that a transgo stage 2 shiftkit would be the go. I found one on ebay but decided to ring a trans specialist first to get the price on the fit. He told me that fitting a shift kit to a vr was a waste of time because of the electronic trans, and told me short of driving around with the pwr button on there was not much to be done to improve shifts.
Does anyone agree/disagree with this? should i just get a rebuild by itself to improve shifts?
The trans seems to slip a bit when it drops down a gear at highway speeds or when revved hard, but generally not too bad. Has 260,000 on it.
Cheers.

I did a bit of research into done up autos but eventually chose to go manual. Usually they get fully rebuilt with extra clutches, different servos, etc. One of the blokes I talked to said that it was best to rebuild the entire gearbox because the harder shifts destroy the sun shell (I'm pretty sure thats what he said can't remember exactly).

A half decent box and a trans cooler is well over $2k, so I decided to go manual, doing it myself and has cost me around $1k.

Because almost any trans shop does strengthened autos and they are pretty good even if they are pricey. If your in the brisbane area sureshift automatics on the north side have a very good reputation for the 4L60E.

cheers chris but by strengthening do you mean fitting a shift kit? I wanted to fit the shift kit because it is the cheaper option to the rebuild. Has anyone fitted stge 2 kit to 4L60e and had it for a decent length of time?

it doesnt matter if its electronic or not you can still add a shift kit to the internals of the trans too improve the shifts. i have one it mine and made it heaps better.
