Transmission types

I have a VS V6 series 1. I had a slight issue recently where oil came out of the trans dipstick which was mentioned in another post.
Anyway, I was going to do a transmission service and also replace the breather hole.

I has since learnt that there are two types of transmissions for the VS. A shallow pan and a deep pan. Apparently the shallow pans were in the early
series. Does anyone know the differences and why?

Havent heard of that one. Usually just go off the number on the LHS (looking at car) under the firewall.
