Have the crank offset ground to make a 330ci combo, cam, vn heads and big dirty turbo and you are about done!
Atleast take it to 330ci, a 4 cylinder will puch out as much as small V8 these days, really not worth the heartache of keeping it a 253.

Ever wondered why hotting up a 253 is "Different"?

Only coz itz the original motor in car (in very good condition, goez hard) so i wanted to keep it in and get the most out of it. Dnt wanna go 2 racing extremes with it, i wanna still be able to jump in & drive it wen i want without a worry, but want it to be tuff (for a 253 anyway), So i wanted to see wot other people would or have done, to beef up a 253, so i can see wot i should and shouldnt do with it. (besides ditching it). Az i said im open to all suggestions, so far i received alot of help thanx to all!!

The 253 is no different to the 308 in terms of mods.
If you can't go to the v8 section of the forum and spend 10mins reading I aint going to spoon feed you.

I dont think i like you.

Quick and cheap mods for the 253. Change manifold to a quad barrel, change the carby to a 500 to 600 holley , cam it , extractors and exhaust. Keep the original block due to one that being able to sell it with matching numbers. Remove engine fan from the water pump and put in thermos then change diff ratio

A Commodore that came out with a 253, came out with a 308. Easy to legally swap to one.

Re-stamping the original number on a different block doesn't make it the original engine, which is the reason he wants to keep the 253.

Not to mention it's illegal...

The biggest you can take a 253 out to is 310. To only get 2 more cubes than a 308 is a complete waist of time and money.

Just leave it standard (mabye a set of decent valve springs) and turbo it. If it dies just go and get another one for a box of beer and bolt it in.

Only way to get a small engine going half decent is to slam boost down its throat....

Sorry, I know a offset grind 253 crank in a 308 takes it to 323/327/330ci depending on the over bore... That being the case, I'd go boost!
