I have a VR acclaim, Just wondering if its possible to stick a trip computer from a VR berlina into an Acclaim. Has anyone done it. and how would i go about doing it.
Yes its possible... read this thread: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/showthread.php?t=32951 and do a search for the 50 other threads on this topic.
as infusion has said yes its possible, hardess part is getting the wiring harness for it.. but do a search and itll tell howto do it, and if in trouble ask infusion or markovr, they helped me (damn work is so boring)
Wiring Patch harness The hardest thing to obtain is the patch harness. If you can't source a used one from a wreckers, let me know. I can provide a part number for a HSV harness that can be used to make the necessary patch harness, cost less than $100.
Thanks for the help guys. this seems a little bit over my head. i think that i will leave it for now.
I have just done this one myself. Its very much a worthwhile mod to do, and of course now I know how to do it, I can make the harness up easily. If you get the parts, I can modify the wiring harness for you if you're in Brisbane, or failing that I can offer help. It's really not difficult at all when you know how You'll need: 1 x Instrument cluster wiring harness from a VR/VS Calais or Stato 1 x Level 3 Instrument Cluster from VR/VS. VN/VP one is similar but wiring is different so you can only use VR/VS one. 1 x Trip computer button module. I got most of that from my local wreckers for about $200, and for $12 from eBay I got the trip computer buttons. This mod is definitely worth the effort and can be completed in a lazy half a day from start to finish if you know the tricks
OK give me a few days to make up a diagram... markovr gets 100% of the credit for working this out, but it took me a while to understand his diagram so I will make my own up for you.
Cant you read shaggy....no one else complained and plenty of people have used it. Should I rewrite it in single syllable words for you . Just Joking
Well, I was going to do that, but since markovr seemed to take exception to that you can refer directly to this thread:http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/showthread.php?t=994 where markovr describes the process himself and provides diagrams. If like me you are an idiot, and struggle to decipher the diagrams, then I can clarify. Good luck and may your dash be sexy and computerised.
I dont care what you do with the diagrams to make it easier Shaggy if it helps another member understand them....I just thought if you were a technician of some form like you say it wouldn't be too hard but if I complicated inadvertently something in my description fix it so it is easier to understand.
quick question... iv got a v6 lvl 3 dash atm and im about 2 atempt to install it but next year im planing to put a v8 in my car...now would this mean i would have to source a v8 level 3 dash or could i just use the v6 levl 3 dash?? cheers fellas.
i *think* it is possible to modify a v6 cluster to accept a v8 signal, but I do not know how to do it. I know it is possible to modify a V8 cluster to work with a V6 by adding resistors, so I can only guess that something similar can be done with a v6 cluster to make it work with a v8 motor.
k, cheers m8. its just i was thinkin if im going 2 do teh mod now id like to not have 2 do it again in 6 motnhs time.
Far easier to wait I reckon... This mod was WELL worth it for me though... fantastic addition to the car
