Trouble wiring LEDS, constantly staying on when should be off

So have been hooking up my dakota shift sensor unit to operate my single LEDS for shift positions with B&M shifter. Was having issues that it was lighting up all of them with a faint glow and gear it was in just a lot brighter.

So found the problem and makes zero sense to me. I remembered had some other LEDS, i quickly wired one up (large red one) and hooked it to the unit. Works perfect, turns on and off when it should.

I then managed to get multymeter positive prong into the dakota output terminal for 1st gear, yep it has constant slight power.
So obviously my leds are more sensitive where as the others as they need more power, not sure what to do now as the other leds are big and will not fit with this set up.

Sounds like you need a resistor man, jaycar or an auto sparky should be able to help ya out
