Hey guys,

Just had some work done to my 2007 WM L98 Caprice when a lifter failed....

Got some Morels race lifters installed
Higgins CNC ported L98 heads
Crow Cams 119/224 @ 114 cam + springs etc
Double row timing chain
HSV extractors and cats (from an e3 maloo)
HM Perry 2.5" stainless exhaust

got dyno'd at the HPF to 278RWKW which i thought was pretty good (stock untuned was 209RWKW) but ive been reading and talking to people with stock engines (only exhaust OTR and tune) are getting 250RWKW.

So a ~28kw gain for heads and a cam seems ridiculously small in comparison...

Only thing that i can think of is that i have HSV extractors and cats... Would they make that much of a difference? I got them for a steal (at $250 brand new off a pull off system) but i'm thinking maybe it wasn't worth it...

Ideas?

I think you are right with the extractors/cats holding back power, the L98 usually likes the big primary extractors also the cam isn't very big and doesn't have alot of lift .554 intake
.564 exhaust. Those heads would love massive lift, especially now that they've been ported

I wouldn't be worrying about the numbers - just how it drives!

Agreed, pfffft at dyno numbers, look at before and after gains. Take numbers with a grain of salt.

You made a 70rwkw gain. Thats really good!

$250 is really cheap for what is still an improvement over what you had. Those others making 250rwkw with an exhaust would have spent up to 10x that just on their exhaust. Their systems would give them 20-30kw gain, the HSV one maybe 10-15kw. The rest of your 70kw gain IS from the engine work. With more expensive extractors and cats on your system I'd say you'd be looking at the 285-290rwkw mark.

Still 278rwkw is nothing to sneeze at. :)

Why the cnc heads? They are already flow stacks.

Out of curiosity was this HPF's $5000 400kw head and cam package they were advertising not long ago.

Sure is Cava, originally had it booked in to get the lifters and cam replaced, which totalled to $5,200 then i got a call before i dropped it in saying for $200 less i could get some Higgins L98 ported heads too. This was a no brainer. Got my oil pump replaced along with an OTR while i was at it and im pretty happy with it.

Peak kw numbers dont mean everything.
Check your torque and kw @ 4000rpm against other cars dyno sheets.
Your cam is smallish these days, power should come on nice and early.

Not bagging your dyno sheet or the company but are they claiming a 122 kw loss through the drive train?
If your car was manual, the dyno sheet would be closer to the 290-300 peak rwkw range.
Bet its fun when your flex your right foot now.

even with a smaller cam, figures seem a little low ive got heads/cam but ive got the oztrack hps which is decentish i think, solong as ur happy tho mate thats all that matters, every dyno will read different too

as said tho bigger heads will deff help either 1 3/4 or i got the bigger pacemaker 1 7/8 should get you more with 100 - 200cpi cats, and if ur chasing every kw could upgrade to 3"

depends how deep ur pockets are too lol
