hey, ive been back and forward on deciding to stroke or Gen III my VS.. as i wanted it to still be my daily driver i sort of didnt want to stroke it but wanted to know how costly it is to wire up a gen into it.. theres a place here (adelaide) that will get you the motor, 6spd tail-shaft and wire in for under 20g's but thats way outa my price mark.. i wanted to keep the Auto in it as i herd they lined up to them. do they drop in or do you need some sort of different engine mounts, cross member, how much to wire up?? that sort of stuff.. any help would be much appreciated.. thanks tom :yeah: JUST UPLOADED ALOT MORE PHOTOS.. Sorry don't know much on the specifics but all i have heard is there is a ****load of time/dollars needed. Matt
for 20 grand you can buy a good cleen vt - vz these days i wouldnt bother with the gen 3 swap unless you had a whole wrecked car to pinch the bits out of. you will be looking for a pcm than a bcm fuel system and to comply the thing you have to make shure the pollution gear matches up etc just buy a car with the gen 3 in it saves the rooting around and stuff.
it can be done, theres a few around, but the cheapest way your gonna do it is with a gen3 wreck. I would not think your current g/box would hook up to it. you'd be best to use the one that comes with the gen3
Both motors run a Chev pattern gearbox so both the 5 litre and the gen 3 can use the same box. It's a bit of a job to put a gen 3 in. However it's getting more popular by the day and all the mounts and part you need to get one in are easy to obtain. If you do it yourself you should be able to get the motor and install it for under 10 grand these days. A VN-VS with a gen 3 will weigh the same or less than a V6 VN-VS so is and will allways be a higher performing car than the later models. VN2nV knows all about it since he's not far off starting a conversion himself so wait for his post
yea, thats wat i figured.. best thing is my cuz works at a sprints auto parts store so can get most things i need at cheap price. thanks for the info mate, idz ave to look out for that post.. cheers
