Our national broadcaster has reverted to using txt language on screen now, for instance they use TON=tonight TMW=tomorrow LTR=later and NXT=next.

Its obviously there to attract younger viewers but what about elder viewers who 1. haven't ever txt anybody 2.never even owned a cellphone.

Do you guys in OZ have the same problem with this?

I also read that in NZ students can do their exams (excluding English and Science) in txt language and its acceptable, what is wrong with us today? almost ashamed to call myself NZer

sounds like a stupid idea to me.
using the abbreviations for texting is ok but why should it be included in everyday life?
another example of dumbing down the world

Yea it pisses me off, I can see the use for txt language when you have limited space to write something, but its on TV there is plenty of space to write the full word.

maybe the people who put the text on screen can't spell and this is the easiest way to overcome it

I think that I'm getting old, as I'm stuffed if I understand text talk. I'm getting better at it, didn't someone on here write a list of what the abbreviations where a while ago.

personally i don't butcher my words when i send a text message, nothing annoys me more than trying to decipher a message thats been chopped up to save space, or more frequently, due to laziness..

gives me the ****s

edit: "lol" will occasionally sneak it's way into my massages, but that's about it...

I'm the same dude, hence why my phone bills are a little larger than most. I use my $350 worth of free calls / text because most of my messages are 2, 3, or 4 messages long due to not abbreviating.

But i dnt txt all dat much now tho, but thnx 4 noticing, itz gr8 m8 lolz.
