Depends on your budget and what sort of sound you want. Twin 3" with rear resi really booms - they're a loud exhaust even at idle. You won't gain power with twin 3" - it's just a different sound. I'd love a twin 3" but it's just a matter of money, and without a performance increase I woudn't spend the money unless one came up really cheap.

Twin 2.5 will support a stock or even modified ls1 without issue. The 285 engine is the same as a stock ls1. Only difference being the hsv extractors and tune.

The only reason you'd go twin 3" with a stock engine is the sound. If money is no object, go the twin 3". Otherwise go twin 2.5.

Headers will do a little - depends on which ones you have to begin with. They drastically change the sound though depending on what you change to.

4 into 1s for the best sound by far, they are better for top end power also

2.5 is your best bet.
I'd only go 3" if planning s/charger in the next 3-6months.
Pick a reputable brand for headers. Headers have a lot to do with power production.
