Did. Glad I did. Regret not doing this years ago.

Wasn’t expecting anything.

Super happy.

Smoother. Sounds different. Does what it feels like it’s always wanted.

I used a drainage part to do it.
$4 at Bunnings. Knock the blanking part out.

Cut the top and sides down a bit.
Might get some ducting onto it. Maybe.

Rather than a forward cut out, I did more discrete side one.

Draws in air from here.

I’ll be doing this on the Cross 8 and the VE as well.

Did same thing on vy sv8 with 2.5" catback...thought it'd make no difference.

Nice noise, seemed to rev better & went a little harder too...was worth the effort & leftover pvc pipe so cost zilch.

Did do proper otr/tune fill exhaust etc later on but that was probably first cheapy d.i.y that actually made a difference lol

I've heard lots of people stress the importance of cold air inductions. The more positive pressure cold air you get in the better. My old triton feeds from the engine bay and it runs like poo.

Is there a particular size it should be cut? I got another air box, and I am gonna give it a go. If there is no particular size, I found some nice fine mesh cooking sieves in the rubbish, and I am gonna put the sieve mesh over the holes, old and new, to keep the sand off the paper filter.

Is it a case of the bigger the better? Can't bugger up what's going on with the computer cause it is reading off the MAF, can it?

No difference to the sensors.
The hole I made was 90mm.
On the side, I can discreetly add some ducting if I want and pick up a more direct source of higher pressure air, but I don’t really think it’s going to be required.
