Ok.. so, involutarily, I am on a push bike for a little while, I've got a loan mountain bike. First time in 15+ years that I've needed to actually ride one.. The fitness level is LOW as hell. I am a smoker and whatnot, so all things running against me.

I have ridden all of maybe 2 km in 2 days (up to shops and back). The crotch region is very painful, so I'm probably going to get a different seat for it. Anyone know of anything to look out for in this case, I don't want to spend copious amounts of money and hopefully go to the likes of Kmart or something.

This is the 'beast' here.. I'll essentially be using it for mercy missions to the shops, and to the brigade if the pager goes off (active member of CFA).

I've fitted lights, have a ADR approved helmet, and I just greased the chain as I noticed it was quite dry. (hoping this helps too with ease of riding)

Ps.. I was sure there was a smiliar thread, if there is, please link it, and I will copy/paste this into that thread :)

I think it`s a girls bike only going by the seat.

As you said "The crotch region is very painful"

proper seat and the inner shorts with padding will help out a lot.
Just depends on how far you're likely to ride all up.
may almost pay to go to a tip shop or similar and pick up an older road bike which will be a lot easier to ride over long distances

This is only for short trips.

Definitely going to look at a different seat. My crotch area is killing me! haha

Your bum will get used to it after a week or so, different seat won't help at this point.

Your fitness will improve also after a few weeks.

it's going to hurt initially, there's no escaping that. But it should improve the more you ride.
Also seat height, position, angle play a big part in comfort.
Google bike seat setup, or ultimately pay a bike shop to set it up properly for you.
