guy's and galls i have a question relating to tyres.

the tyres in question are a 215/50/16 on a non holden type car. around where the wheels have their writing, the tyres look like they are cracking, what is the implications of this safety wise? will the tyre eventualy split and seperate?

Sounds like the siedewalls are drying out, Drive on many dirt roads? Old Tires? Oil Soaked?

There are many reasons as to why it happens, But it does cause a safety issue of being more vulnerable to a blowout if you hit a bump or corner/swerve a little too hard as you are putting stress on a pre-damaged area, meaning it'll tear an cause issues.

I've seen it on a Couple of Holdens that used to live on dirt roads, and or work industrial areas with feral roads. That had cracked sidewalls on the inside of the tire, the face you couldnt see.

    I'd suggest new tires.

    Cheers
    Mat

I Would look at replacing them Garth as Hozy said just makes them more likely to blow out. Only seen cracked side walls on old tyres like my spare in the boot, still ok to get you out of trouble.
