Vs
G’day,
What size tyres are people running on their vs utes?
I currently have 235/45 R17 on mine, and am wondering if these might be causing my ute to be a little slidey on dirt roads (which is awesome when doing circlework at a BnS but not so much when trying to avoid trees on the way to a mates place ).
Pretty sure stock is more like 215/35 R15. What do you have?

I run 225/50 R16 and they are reasonable on dirt roads. Without weight in the tub it will drift anyway if you give it too much throttle on the gravel.

Stock I believe was 205/65 R15

235/45X17 is the correct size for a 17 rim on the commodore.....

Ideally, I'd be going to either a 225/50X16 or 205/65X15, with some weight in the back

I have 235/45/17 on my ute however it doesn't see any unsealed roads. A ute is always going to slide around on unsealed roads due to being light in the back end, only option is to modify your driving. Can't see how changing wheel size and tyres is going to make any difference. IF you don't already have one a LSD will help.

I'm running 245/45-17 as it fills the wheel arch a little nicer. Sedan with IRS.
Still hopeless quickly pulling into traffic on a damp road. Looses traction far too easily.

I am also running on on 245/45/17’s
I recently drove from Townsville to Brisbane and ended up on a dirt road for about 80kms (due to I’m hopeless and Siri + google maps like to stitch me up lol) and i has a good run with no issue.

Wider will sit on top of the gravel more and be looser a little narrower can allow them to dig down to the surface underneath a bit more and increase stability

Is that why old landrovers came standard on skinny 4x4 tyres yet never got stuck.

Dropping the pressures down to 14-15psi also makes a huge difference. I used to run 31 x 10.5s and running 15 rarely got stuck.
