After reading RKZ234 's post about his VX tyre wear issues...

I started to become concerned as to whether any of the IRS VR - VS Commodores or Statesmans suffer from the same bad tyre wearing problems.

If anyone has experienced bad tyre wear on these models I'd appreciate if they could post a reply as I am considering either a VS Calais or Statesman as my next car...

I am also considering the Berlina aswell.....which in my opinion is just a Calais with a solid rear end.

Except lately I've seen alot of VS Berlina's advertised with IRS...

Is IRS standard on the VS model Berlina ?

Either way... if this post generates bad replies for IRS I will narrow my car search for a Berlina without IRS...

    TIA

many people neglect there cars and forget how important it is to get a four wheel alignment. sure a lot of people get a front wheel alignment done but how often do you do all four. every 2 to 3 months i get wheels ballenced and aligned, this will premote better tyre where, i have also heard if you have IRS and lower you car an adjustable panhard rod should be fitted.

absolutley. look at most lowered commodores you can see the tyres on a completely different angle to the front.

2 point camber kit is also another option for fixing such things

I haven't had really had any tyre wear problems but I don't really pay attention having 205s and 215s on, I'd be alot more concerned having rims on. Lowering is a problem, you'll need a camber kit otherwise goodbuy tread.

IRS is not standard on Berlinas, it was an option but you'll probably find most Berlinas with IRS but there are some with live axle.

The rod is only required if you lower a commodore with a live axle. Not required for an IRS vehicle.

    Sold for scrap :(
    I do

Hi I have a 94 VR Calais IRS, standard 15" calais rims, and with the lovell superlow springs in the back I have had heaps of uneven tire wear, I think is is due to the lack of upper control arms which are a must for lower IRS VR-VS's.
But my new airbag set up should take of of this, will post pics when complete

    Slight Increase

My rear tyres in the VS S2 IRS wear a little extra on the inside. Tyre rotation keeps it "managable".

Front wears well if wheel alignment kept within limits.

I have a camber kit to fit, but have not got around to it yet.

I have a VR Berlina 185i 5.0 auto with IRS ABS LSD and FE2
rear tyre wear is not an issue...never has been (missus drives it)
    I rotate tyres F<->R every 10,000 and get 60,000 out of a
set of tyres (it has 16x8 Clubbie wheels and Jap Sumitomo tyres on it atm)

    hth

    cheers

VSII V8 Stato with IRS at standard ride height. No issues at all with rear tyre wear. Current set has 50,000km on them and still has good even tread depth. Car does mostly freeway driving but I imagine those with lowered suspension that do a lot of cornering would have the most problems. Did (and still have) 1 tyre that was out-of-round on the front. Moved it to the rear and much less noticeable.

The missus has got the car at the moment, so can't remember the exact details. They're on the standard 16" stato rims that came with the car, and are probably the same width/profile as was sent from the factory. I can get the exact brand and profile for you if interested but it's probably not much help to those with low profile tyres. And at only $160 per tyre when I bought them, combined with how far they've travelled I can understand why you're bleeding.
