haha I'll get one tomorrow. I love having the blacked out windows, I can now pick my nose at the lights without people in the cars next to me noticing.
I decided that I want a set of caprice V wheels. does anyone know if they can be modded to fit WK (legally?) I'm pretty sure the studs could be a little different. or even a set of WM caprice wheels, but I prefer the caprice v's as they have a few curves and the caprice mags have all straight lines.
Sure can man , Just needs the centre bored out and the tyres changed to the right size for the wk and they will fit fine
awesome, I'll have to start looking for a set. thanks for the info. went for a cruise out to York today, she just glided down the highway, got pretty decent economy too. still loving the tint too, makes the car look sexy as.
"midnight express" tint on the driver's and passenger's windows and "octane" on the rest. this combination is the darkest you can go without getting a sticker. I can't tell you the percentage I'm afraid but the octane tint is supposed to be the darkest we can get in WA. it's so dark that it's illegal to put on the front 2 windows so I had to opt for something a little lighter but it's not that noticeable. I can still see out the windows at night though.
On my '03 VY Berlina, I got 5% on the back window, two rear doors and 35% on the two front doors. Car is black as well, so it goes very nicely. You cannot see in from the outside AT ALL. Looking out though, it's very relaxing on the eyes even on a sunny day. I'm in Victoria. Haven't been pulled over in a long time and I've never had a car inspection for illegal mods.
I went an Alpine INA-W900E. Pretty happy with it, it's got USB, iPod, GPS and Bluetooth for hands free phone usage. Looks pretty good in the dash, too. And, with the appropriate wiring loom, I didn't lose the steering wheel controls, either. It's also got extra RCA connections for AV input, and an output for a secondary screen.
thanks for the suggestion, it looks like a good unit and sits in there well and I like the look of having less buttons. that's my only real gripe is that with the factory deck there is like 50 buttons on the console. I'm not that fussed with steering wheel controls but it would be nice to keep them.
Yeah the steering wheel control loom adds another $100 to the price tag, so you'll have to weigh up whether it's worth it or not. I decided to go with it, because it's a pain in the butt to skip songs/stations with my unit, as you have to go into the touch screen to do it, there's no hard button for this on my unit.
a little update, I pulled the mud flaps off as I was sick of hearing them scrape on speed humps. behind them was 10 years worth of pea gravel, red dirt and those huge prickle balls that you get in out in kalgoorlie. not sure if it's visible in this pic, but the previous owners drilled into the rear bumper to add a extra screw to hold the rear flaps in place. right where the grey skirt meets the silver. any one have any ideas on how I can patch this up to make it look a little neater? (I'll add a pic tomorrow when it's light) also changed the footwell led's from blue to white so it's much brighter. that adds to the limousine feel of the car. just got to do the door lights and the rear roof lamps and dome light. can anyone tell me what type of globe the dome lights/map lights take and how to remove the cover to access them? also been starting to look about for some speakers and stereo gear. also thinking of putting my 19" eleanors on the WK too.
iChris' V8 WK Statesman +1 for Eleanors on the wk at least for a photo, I think it would look mint. The rear map lights near the handles come out by placing a trim removal tool/screwdriver in a little gap at one end of the lens and twisting to "pop" it out. Should see what I'm on about pretty quick. Sunglasses holder if that's what your taking a out will come out by opening where the glasses go and removing the 2 screws and then sliding the console towards the rear of the car. Once it is dangling, remove the plug. Also you will have to reverse the polarity of the dome light to get the LED's to work. Also I think you should get some fitted mats for the front at least, hsv ones are nice but fitted matts will look much classier. Sent from my iPhone
Yeah I'm looking at getting some custom embroided mats. I found a company in Vic park area that makes aftermarket fitted floor mats and also does custom embroidery so I'm going to enquire about getting a set made to fit with the statesman logo on them.
finally got my **** together and picked up some goodies for the sound system. just need to pick a deck now and pull the rest of my gear (dual kicker comp subs, kicker monoblock and alpine speaker amp) out of the VR. got alpine splits for the front, they sounded good so I went with them. also picked up some pioneer 6" speakers for the rear doors. I might even add a extra set of speakers to replace the factory subs in the parcel shelf. I know it probably won't make much difference but it being a luxury cruiser I don't mind. also ordered some custom fitted floor mats today, black with the statesman wreath logo on the sides. very simple and very classy.
another quick update. floor mats are ready to be picked up, but I won't have a chance to do that until friday because of work. just doing a few little small cosmetic bits as it's being used as the bride's car for my dad's wedding in a months time. I attacked the exhaust tip with some good ol' autosol. came up well but I'll need to do it again with a abrasive to remove all of the built up black crap around the lip. I was going to get a new one but I do like the look of the flat square one. I'll leave that until I get a new exhaust for it. does anyone know how I can fix the following: 1) the rubber strip that runs between the quarter window (on the rear passenger's doors) and the main panel has gone scaily and rough. is there any way to fix it or do I need some new rubbers? it's pretty obvious to me against the black windows. 2) the wheels have these cloudy patches on them. is that just something that's gotten on the wheels and left a mark or has the top coat of the finish come off? it looks like soothing has been spilt on them or as if it's been driven through a puddle of something and it's stuck. this wheel is the worst (rear driver's side). is there anything I can do to restore the look of the wheel? (I do know they need a good clean) and if the top coat of the finish has indeed come off, is it safe to use spray on wheel cleaners? I know some types can be acidic. also still need to transfer my personalised plates over from the VR. I think I'll need a dremel or something to get the screws off - I had to put those one way screws on it as I came out of work one day to find someone trying to nick the plates off the car. or is there some other trick to removing those one way anti theft screws without having to cut a line in them to be able to remove them with a flathead screw driver? I don't know anyone with a dremel and I don't fancy spending $150 on one just to use once. also need to get around to re-painting the black on the inside of the numberplate garnish. it's started to peel off and chrome underneath is showing. I might even scrape all of the black off to expose the chrome just to see how it looks. it's a silver car so I don't see the problem with having to much chrome as it goes pretty well with the colour of the car.
With that rubber strip. Get some black shoe polish and apply it to the rubber, then rub it off after a few minutes as if you were polishing your shoes. It does it for my faded strips on my VS it's not hundred percent perfect like brand new, but it does put some more life into it. As for the wheels, I'm not sure just maybe scrub them a fair bit.
