is it true that keeping your car under 2000rpm will result in slightly better fuel economy than letting the engine spin a bit past 2000rpm?

thanx in advance!

yes SLIGHTLY but its very hard to keep it under 2000rpm's for three reasons
1. your right foot.
2. going up hills is very hard when u are under 2000rpms.
3. you dont hear that sweet v8 note then!

Your best fuel economy is said to be (by people far more knowledgeable than me on the subject) at the revs where the most torque is made by the engine.

that would mean driving the car around at 5000rpm everywhere. i fail to see that. you'll get better fuel economy under 2000rpm but you'll use more and put more wear and strain on the engine and driveline by letting it labour up hills.

in the city best fuel economy would be a little bit higher cos its mainly 60 k's an hour but on the highway its from about 1800 to 2200 rpm
