1999 Holden Commodore VT II Executive
Hello,

In my 1999 Holden Commodore VT II Executive, when I start my engine I don't see any dash board warning light (which is good I think).
However, If I turn the key halfway (just to switch on the power) to play my car audio without starting the engine, I see thee warning lights.
The Battery, Oil and Engine lights are on.

Is it usual to get these light switched on in this mode? Or is it trying to say anything that I should be checking with the mechanics?

Thanks.

That is known as "reds" all cars do it. Probably to ensure all lights work so that when your engine is on, and you have no lights, u will know there are no faults.

So to answer your question, your car is running spot on :)

And if you need to turn it that far for your stereo to work then the power lead is connected to accessories.

Just to clarify the issue, when I turn the car key half way around, first all dash light go on. After 3/4 second all the light but engine, oil and battery go off.

If I start the engine, all the light go off.

This is totally normal. Every car does it, surely you have noticed this before in other cars?

Ignition barrels normally have the following settings

LOCK
OFF
ACC
ON
START

In the ACC position you should get no lights, but things like your stereo should work. Turning it one more click to ON will cause a few more things to work and the warning lights to self test, which is what you are describing.
