    How can you have roller lifters on a flat tappet cam?

    Anyway, this thread is a big part of the reason why i went with a Chev in my Torana, Holden V8 is just too expensive and i'm not in love with them enough to spend that much extra coin. That and i wouldn't put an LS1 in it if it was being given away.

    Well, unless you've had a roller cam custom ground to 286 specs, the "Crane 286" is a flat tappet grind....Either that, or you've just got something similar in a Crane roller grind.

    286 is a hyd cam.

    Yeh, hydraulic flat tappet, not hydraulic roller. Hence my question.

    considiring i actually own a vk original lm5000 i know what original parts look like and smart enough to research the car with its papers and build plates, jeolesy is a real heart breaker guys sometimes it gets the better of people.........

    here is info for my cam, Hydraulic Lifter Camshafts

    HYDRAULIC - Fair idle, strong mid
    range-top end street & strip performance.
    Needs 9.5-10:1 comp 3.08-3.5 gears,
    hi-stall converter etc. for best results.
    BASIC RPM 2200-6000

    even then it would be a steal at $600, considering a Trickshift costs $2650!

    There we go, if all else fails, play the jealous card. Nobody said they were jealous?

    Anyway, so it's a hydraulic flat tappet Crane 286. It's not a roller cam, therefore it can't have roller lifters, which was my original point.

    i am kinda jealous if hes getting a Grp A manifold for $600. but i still prefer my manifold lol

    I know the difference....Most people just say hyd cam, solid/flat tappet, hyd roller, solid roller. To distinguish from each other.

    Say hyd flat tappet and I guarantee some blokes will give u a doopey look.

    Doesn't really matter what you call it, the fact of the matter is, you can't run roller lifters on a flat tappet cam, which is what op was saying. That's all i was getting at.

    i beg to differ give crane cams a ring and see what they say i was told as hydraulic mifter style cam i can run hydraulic roller lifters,

    as for the manifold, the car was a complete write off and being the fact he is an old family friend and good mate i received the favour of purchasing the manifold.

    BS. You can't run roller lifters on a cam that isn't a roller cam. Flat tappet and roller cams are 2 completely different things, they're made out of different materials, they're made differently, they're ground differently. If that's what Crane said, the person on the other end of the phone must have been on work experience.

    I could go through the in's and out's, but i'm not even going to waste my time typing it. I'm over trying to explain it.
