I had a very similar issue - fixed by changing plugs. I fitted new plugs with a smaller gap 1.1mm and all good. Dunno if it was that they were new plugs, or if the smaller gap was needed because I am running 10psi pulley.
My symptoms sound exactly as you describe them. New set of plugs is a pretty cheap diagnostic move even if it doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks heaps everyone just changed my plugs and leads and it is fixed fletch_qld I resized mine to 1.1mm

Yeah man im so much more happier my mechanic was talking like it was something serious like a vaccuum problem and all the rest
